Bringing the ‘special’ out of the ordinary. That’s how I’d describe our life. Ryan and my paths merged in 1999 when we both felt called and went to serve as missionaries with OneHope, an international organization with the mission “to affect destiny by providing God’s eternal Word to all the children and youth of the world” (www.onehope.net). During our ‘dating’ years we didn’t actually date. We traveled the world together and apart, sharing our stories in school assemblies and training believers in OneHope ministry. We were married in December of 2001 and just three weeks later left for Europe with a team. Our journey with OneHope took us to over 34 countries and introduced us to people around the world who we love and consider family.
We served with OneHope for 9 years, focusing on video and photography in our final 4 years. It was in these last years that Ryan found what he really loved to do – media/videography/photography. In our last year of traveling we went to Cambodia, Uganda and Rwanda – trips that changed my life and birthed in my heart a dream. I enrolled in Graduate school for counseling, completing the program the semester after Brooklyn was born. My dream is to one day work with kids overseas who have been through difficult and traumatic experiences.
We found out we were pregnant with Brooklyn in January of 2007. By far, she is the greatest gift we have received. When Brooklyn was born we felt God stirring our hearts for something new and at the same time, knew we wanted more stability for our family.
In April of 2008 we moved our little family from Coconut Creek, FL to Boone, NC. Though the transition was by no means easy ~ it has been the best for our family. Ryan is working as a videographer for Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org). He continues to travel, which he loves, both domestic and international. I’m at home with Brooklyn, treasuring our time together, and continuing to work with OneHope from home.
We feel so honored that God would put the dream in our heart to adopt. It’s just one more way that he has made our ordinary life so special. Words cannot express the joy I have in my family ~ in our marriage and our daughter. We feel so blessed for who God has made us and for each day He calls us to give more of ourselves.
